SCB Ignores Court Award

SBEU  DON’T  TRUST  Stanchart!

 UNETHICAL BANK

DESPITE SBEU’s best effort to resolve several issues affecting the welfare of employees in SCB, the Bank arrogantly refuse to act in good faith:

  • Continue to exploit two STL by demoting them without any reason and transfer one of them to Miri when the issue is still unresolved.

  • Discourage members from reporting grievances.

  • Force staff to work beyond hours of work in breach of the CA.

  • Discriminates against employees in Sarawak.

  • Refuse to improve Staff Housing Loan Interest Rate

  • Undermine SBEU by spreading half truths about the real issues.

  • Pretend that the issues are resolved when they are not.

  • Employ outsourced staff in breach of CA

SERVICE TEAM LEADER (STL) ALLOWANCE

The Bank demoted 2 Service Team Leaders (STL) to Sales & Service representative respectively in 2002 and stop paying them the STL allowance of RM250 pm. The STL allowance are actually part of their salary and were given paid upon appointment as STL and hence cannot be removed.

STL are only appointed after they go through a strenuous promotion exercise. They need to undergo training and confirmation before confirmation. Once confirmed the Bank cannot simply demote them. But SCB did.

SBEU discovered that a STL was demoted in 2003 and brought up the matter. The previous HR admits the mistake and restored the Allowance.  Then SBEU discovered another case. The bank threatened the 2nd employee from taking up the case, otherwise it will stop the Allowance of the 1st employee that was earlier reinstated.

When the member insisted on her rightful allowance, the bank promptly stop the Allowance of the 1st employee despite reinstating it earlier.   The new Human Resources do not even respect its previous HR decision.  Where is the ethics?

The bank offered to reinstate them back to the STL posts but refuse to pay arrears amounting to about $20,000

The Bank makes a profit of RM700 million last year.  Cost/ income ratio improve from 46.4% to 42% due to “effective cost management” This is how they manage cost- exploit employees. This of course is not acceptable to SBEU

STAFF HOUSING LOAN Interest Rate

Since 2002 has been requesting SCB to reduce the interest rate for staff housing loan because interest rates has drop to a historical low that the Banks even offer interest free loans to customers. The bank bluntly refused, despite making records after record profits each year.

Even at 3.5% banks are making profit out of SHL.  Please note that customers are putting hundred of millions in savings accounts that earn less than 3%. Customers are also putting more millions into current account that does not cost the bank a single sen in interest.  Bad debts provisions for SHL are negligible. There is no marketing cost and minimal credit management cost for SHL.

OUTSOURCING STAFF

The Bank continue to employ outsource staff without consulting SBEU as required under the SCBA/SBEU Collective Agreement. This is a blatant breach of the CA

5 DAY WEEK

The Bank has been directing our members to work 5 days week in serious breach of the CA.  Whilst SBEU has been prepared to allow the Bank flexibility, the bank discriminate members in Kuching by directing them to work on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays and  pay overtime rates that are much lower for Sarawakian employees compared to their employees in West Malaysia.

SBEU has been trying to resolve the matter in an amicable way for the past 4 years. SCB has taken advantage of our goodwill by disregarding ethical means and resorting to spreading half truths - even claiming that the matter has been resolved (and transferring the employee from Sibu to Miri).

They have openly challenged SBEU.  We now have no choice but to react.

All Malaysians must know how a foreign bank is exploiting us - 50 years after Merdeka!!
